The Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity know that it’s not enough to feed, clothe and shelter those in need. We believe in teaching skills that enable people to support themselves so that they may eventually lift themselves out of a life of poverty and need.
In Honduras, our Trinity Missions Sewing Academy opens doors for disadvantaged women. Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Latin America and has a high percentage of single mothers.
Many of these women don’t have the skills to earn enough money to support their families. The Trinity Missions Sewing Academy is on a mission to change that with sewing and tailoring classes that allow students to make and sell clothes. The program accepts male and female students.
The academy currently accommodates 24 students in three groups, allowing for more personalized instruction and better management of resources. The training starts with basic sketching on paper and progresses to advanced construction of skirts and bodice patterns. Each student is required to create three skirts from a set of 11 patterns, which allows them to apply their learning creatively.
Thanks to your support, we’ve greatly enhanced the program by acquiring additional sewing machines. The extra machines have helped the students increase their efficiency and enables them to work on more complex design projects. The surrounding community considers the academy a true blessing.
As we look to the future of the academy, we would like to add:
- Fundraising and sponsorships to acquire additional resources, such as fabric and advanced machinery.
- More community engagement to ensure ongoing local support.
Advanced sewing technique classes. - Business skills training to teach the students how to start and manage their own sewing businesses.
- Partnerships with local businesses and fashion outlets that could provide practical experience and potential employment opportunities for the students.
As always, we look to God’s providence and your generosity to meet these goals.
The Trinity Missions Sewing Academy stands as a glimmer of hope and empowerment in Honduras, transforming the lives of women and men by equipping them with valuable skills. The progress reported over the past four months is promising, with significant advancements in educational and infrastructural facets. The academy not only teaches sewing, but also weaves the fabric of community and self-reliance, promising a brighter future for all involved.
