Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 14, 1949, Fr John Edmunds is the eldest of six. Father John knew he wanted to be a priest very early in life. The idea of serving the people of God in the priesthood was given a concrete shape when a Missionary Servant priest visited him at his home and spoke of being a missionary in a young, American community. A visit to the wonderful new seminary in Monroe, Virginia, sealed the deal, so at the age of fourteen, he entered the seminary.
Since being ordained in 1976, Father John has served in our missions in California, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and New Jersey. He has served in various ministries including community development, campus and youth ministries, pastoral care, vocations and congregational leadership . He has also been very involved with the work of the Spiritual Life Committee over the years and has worked frequently as a spiritual director.
From 2007- 2015, Father John was General Custodian (Superior General) of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity. This leadership role is to ensure that the Congregation stays true to the vision and spirit of Father Judge. Before his time in leadership for his religious congregation, most of his ministries over the years have been among the African-American community. He has now returned to that ministry as pastor of St. James Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois.
