The week of July 17-20, the annual Assembly of the Religious Brothers’ Conference was held at the Mater Dolorosa retreat center in Sierra Madre, California, with the participation of about 50 Brothers. The theme was “Ministry at the Margins”.
On Tuesday, July 18th, we had a presentation by Professor Darleen Pryds, PhD, who is a professor at the Franciscan School of Theology affiliated with the University of San Diego in Oceanside, CA. Afterwards, we had a tour of Los Angeles where we visited the Cathedral, the observatory, some parts of Beverly Hills culminating in the Farmers Market.
On Wednesday, July 19th, Father Greg Boyle, SJ, presented to us the main theme, “Ministry at the Margins.” Then at dusk, we had a Eucharistic celebration and a dinner of recognition acknowledging some Brothers for their service and welcoming new members to the board of directors. On the last day, we had the closing prayer and evaluation of the assembly. We give thanks to God for our lives and vocation and to our religious communities to which we belong. We look forward to the next 2018 assembly that will be held from July 20-23 at Bolger Center in Potomac, Maryland.
