Construction has begun on our new mission house or “Cenacle” in Honduras. Soon Fathers Alexis Zúniga and Cesar Muñoz will have a permanent home to call their own. The Monsignor Romero Mission Cenacle is located in Comayagüela, Honduras. Completion of the build is expected in the coming months.
Father Alexis is a native of Honduras and has been missioned there for several years. Father Cesar joined him following his ordination earlier this year. Together, they work to replace the allure of the gang life with the joy of the gospel life among the people of Comayagüela.
Honduras is among the most violent countries in the world. Our ministry in Honduras began as a result of Father Alexis’ personal experience. Several years ago he asked if he might be sent as a missionary to work on breaking the cycle of violence in his home city of Tegucigalpa. You see, he lost his own brother to gang violence in Honduras years ago. He thought, “Perhaps I can be an agent of conversion among the gang-bangers.
Both Frs. Alexis and Cesar are passionate about preventing more deaths of innocent men, women and children. When they speak about their work, about the people they are serving, there is a feeling greater than despair within them — they are filled with hope.
Through the generosity of our benefactors, we are able to support these Missionary Servants and their efforts to provide the youth of Honduras with an example of love and joy that makes the false camaraderie of the street life pale by comparison. This is the work of a missionary…this is how we make a difference!
